Once a struggling student and artist, Chad Zindroski worked as a janitor to make ends meet before founding PURR Glass. It wasn’t until a moment of revelation in 2003, while staring at a pile of borosilicate glass tubing in his back shed, that Chad decided to start his own company. Using only clear tubing, scientific design and perforated downstems for maximum diffusion, Chad designed his first “scientific hammer” and began to revolutionize glass design and functionality.

Borosilicate Glass uses silica and boron trioxide as the main glass-forming components. It is known for having very low coefficients of thermal expansion, making it resistant to thermal shock and less subject to thermal stress. It is commonly associated with a specific form of glassblowing called “lampworking”, and used mostly for jewellery and kitchenware.

From the year of its inception until 2011, PURR Glass only distributed their products in their home state of California and to a few other neighbouring states. However, from 2012 on, PURR’s products have made their way across North America, introducing a wide range of people to their signature products such as the Scientific Hammer, the Upright Sherlock, the Double Chamber and the Pocket Piece.

Since their introduction, all of PURR’s original styles have become industry standards.
